ABOUT ELECTROLYSIS

About Electrolysis
Electrology was developed in 1875 by Dr Michael in St Louis, for the treatment of trichiasis (ingrowing eyelashes).
Electrolysis works by passing a small electric current along a sterile fine probe into the hair follicle. Where the root meets the dermal papilla a small amount of heat is created. This dehydrates the bulb and cauterises the blood supply at the papilla. If the hair is treated correctly it will come out of the follicle with the lower part of the root, dermal papilla and surrounding cells intact.
Each hair needs sufficient treatment to destroy the hair root so that it does not regenerate and produce another hair. At Somerset Electrolysis, we try out a range of modalities to find the fastest and most comfortable setting for each of our clients, but in general the higher the current used, the shorter the time needed to remove the hair permanently.
To succeed, electrolysis does require a regular commitment with appointments spread over one or two years (depending on the strength of the hairs to be eradicated), but this will result in permanent hair removal which will last for the rest of your life.
It is natural to want to try different epilation methods which may promise quicker and easier results than electrolysis but, despite the claims made for Laser and IPL, electrolysis is still the only reliable permanent hair removal method, a fact recognised by both the BMA in the UK and the FDA in the US.
Think of it as the difference between the latest fad diet promising massive weight loss, which is almost inevitably temporary and often leads to subsequent weight gain, versus committing to life style changes with plenty of exercise and healthy food which will positively affect your health and body for the rest of your life.
However at Somerset Electrolysiswe do understand that electrolysis may still not be for everyone. So we offer a free initial consultation and free sample treatment with no obligation.
