How it works

How it works
Electrolysis works by passing a small current through a probe into the hair follicle.
A direct current is galvanic electrolysis and causes an electrochemical reaction within the hair follicle to destroy the hair shaft. Thermolysis or Diathermy use alternating current or high frequency current to cause heating at the end of the probe.
Rather than piercing the skin, a very fine sterile probe is inserted to slide down beside the shaft of the hair and pass a small electric current into the hair follicle where the root meets the dermal papilla. The small amount of heat created (which feels like a tingle) dehydrates the bulb and cauterises the blood supply at the papilla preventing/hampering regrowth
At Somerset Electrolysis we use the “Apilus® Platinum™ Pure”, employing an ultrarapid 27MHz frequency which is twice as fast as any other epilator. The hair removal modes achieved with this frequency are faster than the brain can register, and are able to specifically target and coagulate the cells responsible for hair growth, offering an effectiveness and comfort not previously available in permanent hair removal.
Depending on the client’s skin and hair type, we use Synchro™, PicoFlash™ and MultiPlex™ for thermolysis, and PicoBlend™, OmniBlend™, MultiBlend™ and Blend for combined currents
